Candle Care
Your candle is ready to fill your home with beautiful scents - here’s how to take care of it with these simple care tips:
1. First Burn Matters
For the best burn, place your refill in the middle of your vessel before lighting and let the wax melt fully across the surface on your first burn (2-4 hours) — this helps prevent tunnelling, promotes an even burn and avoids wax collapsing at the edges. Because of the shape of the vessels and natural wax, the melt pool may look uneven at first. But don’t worry, this won’t affect the quality of your burn and the wax will even out as it burns down the vessel.
2. Trim your Wick
Trim the wick to around 5mm before each burn to keep the flame steady and your candle burning evenly.
3. Burn Time & Environment
Candles burn best on a flat, even surface away from drafts or direct sunlight. On average, our 190g candles burn around 35-40 hours, depending on your space and how you care for the wick. Don’t burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
4. When to Stop Burning
When the bottom of the wick becomes visible, it’s time to stop burning. Because our candles are hand-poured into silicone moulds, the wick isn’t fixed to the base of your ceramic vessel - so burning beyond this point could cause it to come loose or float in the melted wax. Stopping at this point will help to protect your vessel, prevents overheating and ensures a safe finish to your candle.
5. Refilling your Candle
Once your candle has finished, pop the bottom of your ceramic vessel into a bowl of hot (not boiling) water for a few minutes. The remaining wax will lift out easily with a teaspoon. Wipe the vessel clean, then insert a new refill - because everything is handmade, the shape of the vessel can vary slightly - you might need to gently twist the refill to find the perfect fit. But don’t worry, every vessel has been checked with a refill by us first, so they do definitely fit once correctly placed. Ensure your refill is placed in the middle of the vessel to avoid uneven burn or wax collapsing.
6. Storage Tips
Store your refills in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the scent and quality of your wax.
