Your Burning Questions
Candles
What are your candles made from?
Each candle is hand-poured using natural rapeseed & coconut wax and pure essential oil blends - no synthetic fragrances, dyes or paraffin. They’re clean to breathe in and burn beautifully without releasing that black soot!
Who makes your ceramic vessels?
Our vessels are handmade by Jenny at Fernweh Pottery, a talented potter who creates each piece with care and intention. Every vessel is slightly unique, with subtle variations in shape and glaze, making your candle truly one of a kind. They’re designed to be kept, refilled and enjoyed for years to come.
How are your candles refillable?
We pour each candle into a silicone mould first, creating a refill to slot into your ceramic vessel. This means that you can easily replace your candle once its finished, reusing your beautiful ceramic vessel.
How do I replace my candle refill?
Once your candle has finished, simply pop the bottom of your ceramic vessel into a bowl of hot (not boiling) water for a few minutes. The remaining wax will soften and lift out easily with a teaspoon. Wipe the inside clean, dry it and your vessel is ready for a new refill! Because everything is handmade, the shape of the vessel can vary slightly - you might need to gently twist the refill to find the perfect fit. But don’t worry, every vessel has been checked with a refill by us first, so they do definitely fit once correctly placed. Ensure your refill is placed in the middle of the vessel to avoid uneven burn or wax collapsing.
How can I get the best burn?
Place your refill in the middle of the ceramic vessel, trim your wick around 5mm before each light, and allow the wax to melt fully across the surface on the first burn to avoid tunnelling. Because of the variable shapes of the vessel and the refillable design, you may see some wax residue round the edge of the vessel, but this will melt away and even itself out as the candle burns down. Taking care of your wick and allowing full melts helps your candle burn more evenly and last longer.
How long do your candles burn for?
On average, around 35-40 hours, depending on how you care for your candle.
Are your candles vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes, all of our candles are 100% plant based, made with rapeseed & coconut wax and pure essential oil blends. That means no animal products, no beeswax and no hidden ingredients. We also ensure all of our ingredients are cruelty-free, so no animal testing is involved at any stage. You can relax knowing your candle is crafted ethically, inside and out.
Essential Oils
What do you use to scent your candles?
We only use 100% pure essential oil blends, never synthetic fragrance oils. Essential oils are extracted directly from plants, meaning the scents you experience come entirely from nature. We choose not to use fragrance oils as they are man-made and often contain chemicals designed to mimic natural scents or make them stronger. While fragrance oils can produce a more intense aroma, they can sometimes release compounds that aren’t as clean to breathe in. We prefer to keep things simple and natural, using pure essential oils for a cleaner burn and a more authentic connection to nature and wellbeing.
What are the benefits of essential oils?
Essential oils do more than just make your home smell beautiful, they can also help support your mood and wellbeing. Depending on the blend, they can help to:
- Promote calm and relaxation
- Create a soothing atmosphere for rest or sleep
- Naturally freshen and purify the air
- Encourage focus and clarity
- Lift your mood and energy
- Ease tension and relieve mild headaches
Will the scents fill the whole room?
Essential oils tend to have a more subtle, natural aroma than synthetic fragrance candles - you’ll notice a gentle diffusion throughout your space creating a fresh, inviting atmosphere that doesn’t feel overpowering.
Are essential oils safe to burn around pets?
Not all essential oils are suitable for pets, so we recommend using them with care. Always burn out of your pets reach, in a well-ventilated area and never in an enclosed space with your pet. If you’re unsure, please check with your vet before using essential oils around your pets.
Wax Melts
What are your wax melts made from?
Each melt is hand-poured using natural soy wax and 100% pure essential oil blends. We top them with dried botanicals or fruit for a aesthetic, natural touch. They’re completely vegan and cruelty free - no paraffin, synthetic fragrances or hidden ingredients.
Can I use your wax melts in any burner?
Yes - they work well in both electric and tea light burners, with a deep dish. If your wax burner has a shallow dish, cut the wax melt in half as they are quite large and may overflow. If you’re using a tea light burner, choose a burner with a bit of space between the flame and the dish to avoid the dried botanicals getting too hot.
How many melts should I use at once?
One melt is enough for a small to medium room. For larger spaces, you can add a second melt if you’d like a stronger scent.
How long does each melt last?
Each melt can be reheated several times until the scent begins to fade. On average, you’ll get around 6-8 hours of scent from each one depending on your burner.
How do I remove the old wax from my burner?
Let the wax cool and solidify, then warm the burner just enough for the wax to loosen and it should slide out easily. Wipe away any residue with tissue before adding a new melt.
